Lake Manyara National Park is a compact but remarkably diverse park nestled between the dramatic Great Rift Valley escarpment and the alkaline waters of Lake Manyara. Famous worldwide for its tree-climbing lions — an extraordinary behaviour rarely seen elsewhere in Africa — the park packs an incredible variety of habitats into a small area.
The lake itself turns pink with thousands of flamingos, while zebras and wildebeest graze along its shores. A lush groundwater forest at the park entrance harbours colobus monkeys and large troops of baboons. With over 400 bird species, it is also one of Tanzania's premier birdwatching destinations.
